Course overviewManaging Workplace Safety provides an introduction to the practical application of health and safety principles and practices for non-specialists. The course covers safety and risk management in the workplace, common hazards and their controls as well as legal responsibilities and injury management.
The course is particularly suitable for managers and supervisors responsible for implementing health and safety in industrial and other high risk environments.
Learning outcomesPeople who complete this course will have knowledge and practical skills to:
- Explain the moral and economic advantages of good standards in health and safety within an organisation
- Identify those key elements which promotes an effective health and safety culture in an organisation
- Understand the legal responsibility for H&S in NZ
- Identify hazards in the workplace and carry out risk assessments, record findings and review procedures
- Advise on strategies for controlling hazards, reducing risks and applying safe systems of work
- Identify the main requirements for measuring health and safety performance to meet policy objectives
- Understand the key features of the Accident Compensation Act 2001 and the process of injury management
