Course Overview
This course has been designed specifically for elected Health and Safety Representatives, First-line Managers, Supervisors and Team Leaders who have acquired a basic level of safety knowledge. The course builds on the foundation knowledge gained in Stage 1, which is the recommended pre-requisite before completing Stage 2. The course is aligned with unit standards “17601 Produce an occupational health and safety incident investigation” and “17602 Apply hazard identification and risk assessment procedures in the workplace”. Day One recaps on stage one material, before covering hazard identification, assessment and control in more detail. Day Two covers Hazard Monitoring, Review and Record Keeping, then moves into incident management, including: Why Report and Investigate Accidents, Multiple Causation & Root Cause Analysis, and Conducting an Investigation.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe HSE Act duties in relation to hazard management
- Apply methods to identify work place hazards
- Assess hazards for significance
- Assist with the develop of hazard controls measures
- Assist with monitoring and reviewing hazards.
- Describe why accidents need to be reported and investigated
- Assist with accident reporting
- Understand accident causation theories
- Assist with completing an incident investigation.

The course is suitable for both experienced representatives and others in the workplace with health and safety responsibilities.
