WHAT ARE HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES?
Under the new Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act a Hazardous Substance is defined as any substance with one or more of the following hazardous properties:
- Explosive, Flammable or Oxidiser
- Toxic (both Acute and Chronic) or Ecotoxic
- Corrosive
In addition many other naturally occurring materials, such as asbestos and organic ones such as wood dust may have hazardous properties including the ability to cause cancer.
